Job Description Job Description Description: The Academy’s
Speech and Language Pathologist, working in collaboration with
district staff, students, and parents, shall be responsible for
providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with
speech, language, and hearing disorders helpings students to adjust
and access the general education curriculum. Position-Specific
Responsibilities: Assess, screen, and evaluate students and
effectively share results with parents and educational staff, and
participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance
with state and school division requirements and best practice
Develop and implement individual Education Plans (IEPs) for
students with Speech/Language impairment and assists with IEPs for
students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or
according to requirements Provide speech and language therapy to
qualifying students and frequently monitor student progress Assist
students in developing feelings of self-worth and in making social
adjustments which permit them to cope with disabilities. Assist
teachers and other support staff in the development and
implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate
classroom strategies Refer students and their families to
appropriate community agencies and services, as needed Build
positive relationships with staff, students, and families Provide
families with instructional materials to be used at home Accurately
complete forms and reports and maintain records in compliance with
state and federal regulations Attend professional developments,
workshops, and staff meetings to main and increase professional
knowledge and skills Provide consultative services for school staff
by sharing and demonstrating specific techniques and working with
school teams to facilitate relevant and consistent interventions
for targeted students Establish and maintain cooperative
professional relationships with administrative and school staff
Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of
Special Education Requirements: Hold a valid Michigan teaching
certificate with an endorsement in Speech and Language Impaired or
possess a Master's degree and have a valid Certificate of Clinical
Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA) Ability to effectively interact, collaborate,
and communicate both orally and in writing with administration,
staff, parents and students Satisfactory criminal background check
and unprofessional conduct check as required by School Safety
Legislation. Knowledge of current speech and language assessment
tools Knowledge of Special Education rules and regulations
Demonstrated high-level of organizational skills and ability to
successfully manage and coordinate a number of projects and tasks.
Ability to write reports requiring meaningful interpretation of
data, technical precision and accuracy. Ability to work flexibly
and cooperatively.
