Job Description:
Job Description Job Description The Metal Cost Engineer will be
responsible for all technical costs associated with structural and
mechanical metallic components, including but not limited to
vehicle frames, seat structures, engine parts, and complex
mechanisms. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Determining component variable costs and tooling investments for
all vehicle platforms, focusing on key metal manufacturing
processes such as stamping, welding, casting, and CNC machining.
Cost-evaluating and collaborating on product change notices (PCNs)
related to metal component specifications, materials, and
manufacturing methods. Evaluating tool firm price contracts (e.g.,
stamping dies, casting molds) and verifying asset existence and
capability. Ensuring appropriate escalation to upper management if
component cost targets or collaborations cannot be agreed upon with
respective metal component suppliers. Supporting internal
competitive vehicle benchmarking efforts, specifically focusing on
the material cost and manufacturing complexity of metallic
body-in-white (BIW) and chassis structures. Local travel may be
required to review suppliers’ metal manufacturing plant layout and
processes in support of supplier manufacturing process mapping and
the creation of accurate Should-Cost models for metal
components.
