Job Description:


Assists in the examination and treatment of dental patients by tracking patient information, documenting the dental record, assisting with in-office procedures and testing, administering medications and providing patient and caregiver education. May perform reception and clerical duties. Duties are performed under the oversight and direction of professional clinical staff and dentists as outlined in the Clinical Support Staff Scope of Practice document.

Prepares for the day by meeting with the residents prior to the start of patient care and reviewing treatment scheduled for the day.
Greets and courteously escorts patient and other guests to treatment room.
Coordinates the existing and new patient experience in the clinic, introducing the staff and doctors and making patients feel comfortable in the clinic. Tells them what to expect in the examination and listens to their concerns. Assists the resident in providing successful treatment for the patient.
Assists with patients who have special needs by preparing for their treatment with necessary instruments and skills.
Reviews the current health status of all patients by interviewing and noting any changes in the patient's record. If there are changes, notify the doctor before treatment has begun.
Ensures each treatment room is prepared with all necessary instruments and materials for the procedure.
Assists the doctor at chair side with the treatment for each patient. Provides support for the patient during all phases of the appointment. Escorts the patient back to the reception area and assists them as needed.
Completes treatment entries, including all hard and soft tissues for patients, into the patient's chart and prepares for the doctor's signature.
Summarizes the patient's appointment and reviews any post-operative care necessary for a successful and comfortable result, and any necessary return visits.
Takes clinically excellent photographic and radiographic images of patients and arranges them correctly in the patient's chart.
Takes outstanding alginate impressions in a timely way to produce quality plaster models, including those for study models and opposing models for crown and bridge. Trims study models and models to be mounted.
Helps the hygiene students from OCC prepare for their patients and answer any questions they may have about patient care.
Responsible for lab cleanliness and ordering lab supplies and other needs. Monitors and changes any disinfecting solutions to maintain their effectiveness.
Responsible for sterilization of all instruments, disinfection of all surfaces and maintenance of autoclave, including cleaning and monitoring effectiveness.
Participates in staff meetings by completing necessary trend indicators and contributing to the implementation of action plans.
As time permits, assists other staff members in need of help.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Job Requirements:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. Associate Degree preferred. Successful completion of accredited/approved Dental Assisting education program.
CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), or Dental Assistant License preferred. Must have completed, or will complete within 4 weeks, an accredited/approved radiography course resulting in Dental Radiography Certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years of clinical experience (excluding externships). Experience assisting in all phases of dentistry. Experience with Dentrix preferred.
