Job Summary
The Nurse Intern functions as a collaborative member of the Oakland County Health Division care team in partnership with and under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Performs basic direct client care to a specific group of patients. Actively supports the activities of the clinic and community teams. Promotes organizational commitment and excellence in the client care experience, and in compliance with the standards of professional behavior within nursing.

  • Performs basic nursing care and selected procedures under the direction and supervision of a RN. Applies progressive knowledge and skills acquired through a formal nursing program in order to perform increasingly more complex care activities.
  • Provides individualized care consistent with the plan of care under the direction and supervision of the RN.
  • Performs immunizations under direction of RN.
  • Approaches learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of the client and family under the direction and supervision of the RN.
  • Reports changes in client condition to the RN timely.
  • Provides client care that reflects respect for patients' rights, dignity, values, culture preferences, and expressed needs and attention to providing and alleviating anxiety.
  • Provides individualized care consistent with the plan of care under the direction and supervision of the RN.
  • Seeks, evaluates and incorporates feedback for improvement of own performance utilizing feedback from Supervisor and RN staff in order to identify clinical improvement opportunities. Participates in self-appraisal.
  • Actively engages and participates in unit-based meetings and initiatives that promote client and workplace safety, optimal client outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Takes personal accountability to seek out experiences to maintain skills and competence and to develop role as a progression towards that of a Registered Nurse.
    Minimum Qualifications

      b. Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing to be classified as a freshman or sophomore status with less than 56 credit hours completed (equates to base step of salary range).c. Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of 56 semester credit hours to be classified as junior/senior status (equates to one year step of salary range).d. Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing in a graduate degree program (equates to two year step of salary range).

      NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.2.       Special Requirements
      • Current BCLS (Basic Life Support Certification) certification.
