Title: Senior Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical
Technologist Specialty: CVOR Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 6am-2:30pm,
6am-4:30pm, or 6am-6:30pm Hours per Shift: 8-12 hours Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience supporting complex high acuity
surgical volume License: Surgical Technologist certification or
equivalent experience required Certifications: Current BLS
certification required or become BLS certified within one month of
start date Must-Have: Cardiac scrub experience Description: Under
the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical
Team members, you will be responsible for the handling of surgical
instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during general to
moderately complex surgical procedures. You will ensure an
understanding of the assigned surgical procedures being performed
and anticipate the needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team
members. You will also provide service support related to patient
preparation, patient transport, and assisting the surgical care
team with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort
needs. You will respond to emergent situations according to
established procedures. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate and apply knowledge of advanced surgical techniques.
Scrub on complex surgical procedures such as: Liver and
multi-visceral organ transplants. Endovascular valve replacement
and/or aneurysm repair, including TeVAR and FeVAR. Membership on
the cardiac surgical team. Ability to scrub cases involving
cardiopulmonary bypass. HIPEC procedures. Demonstrate critical
thinking skills in relation to anticipating the perioperative needs
of the patient and surgeon. Prepare the operating room by setting
up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of
surgery. Ensure proper functioning of instruments and equipment
prior to use and report needed repairs appropriately. Follow
established departmental policies and procedures, objectives,
quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection
control standards, and report and correct non-compliance. Display
cost-consciousness in the opening of sterile supplies and in the
care and handling of surgical instruments. Assist the RN in
admitting, transferring, and discharging patients in the operating
room, as needed. Assist the RN in positioning and prepping patients
as necessary. Maintain a safe and clean room environment; keep the
room free from clutter, clean and stock rooms, and return equipment
and supplies to designated storage locations. Provide comfort and
support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to
patient care and privacy. Exhibit a higher level of collaboration
with peers in making decisions related to surgical patient care.
Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures
and communicate in collaboration with the surgical team. Maintain
established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality
assurance programs, and safety standards. Actively participate in
shared governance/process to promote team practice. Support
administrative and unit governance changes to the job role and unit
operations. Participate in discussions regarding job enrichment and
career progression. Complete required education in a timely manner
and participate in ongoing department-specific educational
programs. Train and precept new employees and students in
accordance with assigned orientation and curriculum. Actively
participate in audit monitors and department task forces. Recognize
and participate in continuing education. Perform other duties as
