Description Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 days per week. An Electric Drive Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and testing embedded software to control the electric machines and power inverter modules in General Motors hybrid and electric vehicles. They will coordinate with engineers from areas such as requirements, controls, calibration, power electronics design, controller design, and motor design to deliver electric drive software for the world's best electrified vehicles. Creative people are encouraged to join a strong team passionate about innovative technology development. Responsibilities: Design, develop, implement, and test software for digital control of high voltage power electronics and electric machines, including both permanent magnet and induction motors. Design and execute unit and functional tests to ensure compliance with design requirements. Provide independent review of software written by others. Support hardware, controls, calibration, and integration teams with root cause analysis of software issues. Support hardware testing at the bench, dynamometer, and vehicle level. Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills to work with and mentor others. Exhibit a high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are very unusual and difficult. Strive for efficient code to ensure maximum feature capability in throughput-constrained controllers. Additional Description Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree 3+ years of experience in embedded software development using ANSI C programming Proficiency with embedded compiler, linker, debugging tools, and software such as CANalyzer, Lauterbach, ETAS INCA, oscilloscopes, and other general lab equipment Knowledge of embedded software principles, including multi-core architecture, memory management, and efficiency analysis Experience with modeling software (such as MATLAB / Simulink, etc.) Ability to work independently under a tight, demanding schedule Desired Skills: Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree Experience in the development of automotive embedded controls with an emphasis on electric machine and power electronics control Experience with software design for NXP PowerPC processors and Snake family Experience with coding in PowerPC assembly or similar Experience with controls and software verification and validation Knowledge in embedded systems electronics Experience in GM GIT Ecosystem toolset Experience in Scaled Agile Framework for enterprise (SAFe) process About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
