Data Coordinator Intern - Immigration Legal Services JOB
DESCRIPTION The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, a subdivision of
the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), is seeking undergraduate and
other non-law graduate interns to work with our Data Team for a
summer 2026 internship, based out of any of our five office
locations - Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ypsilanti, or
Detroit. Michigan Immigrant Rights Center MIRC provides direct
legal services to immigrant clients focusing on survivors of
domestic violence and victims of crime, unaccompanied children,
individuals in detention and removal proceedings, migrant
farmworkers and immigrant workers, noncitizens applying for
naturalization, and individuals seeking asylum, TPS, deferred
action, and other forms of immigration relief. MIRC also provides
technical and co-counsel assistance and training to Michigan legal
aid and pro bono attorneys handling immigration and immigrant
rights matters, including the rights of unaccompanied children,
immigrant workers, and survivors of crime and domestic violence.
MIRC conducts impact litigation, systemic advocacy on behalf of
Michigan's low-income immigrants and their families, legislative
and legal development tracking and analysis, and coalition-building
among immigration assistance providers and immigrant advocacy
organizations statewide. MIRC hosts summer interns in Ypsilanti,
Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Detroit and is happy to
consider hybrid working. Our Data Team MIRCs Data Team ensures
accurate and timely data reporting for contract and grant
requirements by regularly auditing both MIRCs internal database and
external reporting platforms. The team utilizes languages such as
R, Python, and tools like Salesforce reports and Microsoft Excel.
In addition to reforming existing systems and developing new ones
to enhance reporting efficiency, the team performs data analysis to
improve client services and drive impactful projects. Job
Description Interns on The Data Team are supervised by the Data
Team Supervising Program Coordinator and can expect to be
responsible for a small amount of data entry tasks, with the bulk
of their work being either assisting with Data Team projects, or
conducting their own Data-related projects in collaboration with
other teams. Qualifications Applicants must reside in the state of
Michigan while working for MAP. Current undergraduate or non-law
graduate student with an interest in data and the U.S immigration
system Preference for current study in Statistics, Data Science,
Political Science, Computer Science, Macro Social Work, or related
field Pay/Benefits MIRC Undergraduate interns will receive pay via
an hourly rate of $15/hour. Other graduate (non-law) interns will
receive pay via an hourly rate of $18/hour. Applicants are strongly

than what we pay, we will make up the difference. Hourly clerks do
not earn vacation or paid holidays. Students and casual employees
will earn sick time pursuant to Michigans Earned Sick Time Act
(ESTA). Under the ESTA, sick leave accrues at a rate of one hour
for every 30 hours worked. Employees begin to accrue sick leave on
their first calendar day of employment or their date of eligibility
