You will need prior experience and/or knowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, electronics, testing/driving and fabrication. Translates business objectives to actionable work for the work group. Supports leading new processes and methods in line with departmental goals.The Role We are looking for a high-performing Transmission Controls Development Engineer who is responsible for: leading and planning development activities; assisting calibration engineers in data analysis and calibration development; identifying opportunities for data reduction; and providing design improvements based on development and analysis results. This is an assignment where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives. Consults with supervisor as required.ResponsibilitiesLead and execute development activities for transmission controls systems /components including valve body, hydraulic routing, actuators, sensors, wiring etc. from concept through production.Serve as direct interface with Program Management, Chief Engineers, Calibration and Product Engineering teams to provide technical design direction recommendations with business case for your transmission controls system.Project Management of all activities related to bringing transmission controls systems into production by leading a cross functional team comprised of various engineering groups including Design Release, Calibration, Diagnostics, Software, and Controls Architecture Engineering.Create and develop algorithms for new transmission features. Create and improve process for transmission level calibrations, for example: Pressure to Current; Pressure and Temperature Compensation; Solenoid Dither; Hysteresis.Lead root cause analysis on components, along with cost and warranty reduction efforts.Lead in contributions to the betterment of transmission engineering best practices by improving and adhering to the Bill of Design and Bill of Process.Lead in the creation processes to support standard development activities.Travels as needed (domestic & international)Additional Job DescriptionRequirementsBachelor---s degree in one of the following engineering programs: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or Physics5 years of Engineering experience with propulsion-related systems Demonstrated technical and professional experience in controls related engineering, software, hardware, calibration, or developmentUnderstanding of program GPDP milestones and execution required to launch with excellenceExperience with coordination and leading projectsHigh level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficultHigh level of oral and written communication skillsHigh level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with othersAbility to prioritize work & resources and manage indirectlyDesired SkillsMaster---s degree in one of the following engineering programs: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or PhysicsIntermediate-level knowledge of MATLAB scripting to be able to execute, modify, and troubleshoot the scriptsKnowledge of transmission performance and calibration; vehicle integration; software and algorithm design and development; dynamometer capabilityKnowledge of Cameo, AVL Drive, TestBed.Connect, INCA Understanding of engineering theory for mechanical, thermal and hydraulic problemsControls / calibration system engineering experience in Propulsion systemsBenefits OverviewThe goal of the General Motors total rewards program is to support the health and well-being of you and your family.
