Employment Type: Part time Shift: Night Shift Description: * I Accountability Objectives: Performs radiologic procedures at a technical level not requiring supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with integrity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis. Assumes responsibilities for a designated area or procedures as required. II Position Qualifications: Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required. A. Education * High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. * Completion of AMA approved radiologic technology program. B. Licensure / Certification * Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. C Special Skill / Aptitudes * Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups. D. Experience * One year experience preferred. III Duties / Responsibilities: 1 Performs routine radiographic fluoroscopic procedures on patient of all ages (including pediatrics), demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, techniques 2 Performs and /or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures. Prepares and/or administers contrast media according to department policy. Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills. Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment within the department. Develops exposed films and reloads cassettes with appropriate film. Positions patient to obtain desired views. Applies immobilization devices as required. Prepares and positions patient for procedures. Retrieves and calls reports to physician's office, nursing units, surgery and ER upon request . Reviews exposed radiographs for proper positioning, techniques and identification. Recognizes and records patient history, unusual conditions/limitations such as examination time, room number and technique. Performs all routine radiographic procedures and views according to the department procedures manual. Performs daily warm up and quality control checks to each radiographic room/equipment assigned. Responds quickly to beeper calls. Performs quality control test on assigned equipment. Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation. Performs visual preventive safety inspections, completes tube warm-up procedures for each radiographic room/equipment as assigned. Records quality control activities, reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel. Provides radiation protection to patient, self and staff according to the prescribed safety standards including but not limited to coning, proper techniques, film badge applications, and repeat. Performs visual preventive maintenance checks, records and reports results to appropriate personnel. Fills out maintenance forms. Practices sterile techniques to prevent cross contamination. Practices isolation techniques to prevent cross contamination. Receives consultation request checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with radiologist as necessary. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present. Greets and introduces self to patient. Describes nature and time requirement of examination to patient. Identifies problem and communication to immediate supervisor; offers solutions as appropriate. Promotes good interpersonal relationships. Provides patient with growing instructions. Provides patient, doctor and office staff with information on examination preparations. Addresses patient and medical staff complaints and suggestions. Reports and /or acts accordingly. Utilizes hospital and department communications-telephone, beepers, and paging systems appropriately. Properly identifies films with R or L, time, date, patient 's name. Series , etc. Checks requisition for physicians notes and /or special instructions. Checks patient ID by verbal confirmation and ID band. Completes all paperwork where applicable. Consults with radiologist and /or physician/nurse regarding examinations as necessary. Updates patient examination history file, records unusual conditions/limitations, documents examination time, room number and technique factors. Completes examination, consultation and billing procedures as required. Performs other paperwork as applicable. Performs other related duties as assigned. Assist in movement of patients to and from department in accordance with the transportation standards. Cleans and maintains films processors as shift demands. Performs daily film processor quality control test as shift demands. Performs or assist in Quality Assurance projects. Willingly performs office and file room procedures in absence of clerical personnel. Recognizes office procedures needs and responds. Assumes charge position as required in absence of supervisory personnel. Performs examination scheduling. Performs daily work logs and flash ID's as required. Prepares and maintains examination request and billing sheets as required. Files and retrieves films and all patient reports as per department policy. Organizes, plans and directs activates relating to patient s and procedures for designated areas. Transports patients under department guidelines. Maintains professional acumen through active associate with professional organizations, attends in services education programs and department meetings, and participates in film critique session. Familiarizes self with hospital policies on Fire and Safety and completes hospital required in-service. * Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland through performing behaviors consistent with the Trinity Health Values. * Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Program, including the Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors. III Duties / Responsibilities: * Supports and conducts one's self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations. * In accordance with unit or departmental practice, determines that appropriate charges have been entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, with any required modifiers. Make corrections as needed per charge capture policy/practice. * In accordance with unit or departmental practice, actively participates in on-going education and communication regarding revenue management. * In accordance with unit or departmental practice, assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit. Requests services for maintaining equipment as needed. * In accordance with unit or departmental practice, proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift.
